Intensive agriculture leads to a loss of diversity of flora and fauna in landscapes. To regulate and control the process, so-called agri-environmental schemes (AES) have been used for several decades. Their main goal is to preserve the biological diversity of agricultural land through financial incentives for farmers who use sustainable and environmentally friendly farming methods. The introduction of activities that have been demonstrated well within the framework of AES into the practice of modern agricultural production in Russia is promising in solving environmental problems. Selected approaches: integration of environmental standards, financial and educational support for farmers, as well as the introduction of monitoring systems for biological diversity conservation can become a valuable guide in the processes of greening and sustainable development of Russian agriculture.
