Abstract: The article discusses the need to improve the quality of distance education in the teaching of technical disciplines, which has its own characteristics. The main problem is the complexity of the training material, which includes a large number of formulas and graphic material with a limited amount of hours allocated for its development. The use of modern messengers is one of the opportunities to solve these difficulties in teaching and to facilitate the use of this material by students. It is proposed to use a free messenger Discord with support for telephone communication over IP, video conferencing, designed for use by various communities of interest, which is popular among young people. Discord has a whole set of useful features for providing the presentation of complex material of technical disciplines. The set of functions of this program can be customized for specific tasks of various forms of education in higher education: lectures, practical classes, seminars, laboratory work and workshops. The educational process when using this program is more focused on the formation of a complex of knowledge, skills and abilities in teaching general engineering disciplines, which affects the overall development of engineering thinking and equips the future engineer with methods of independent activity for collecting and processing information, thus implementing the current principle - "education through life". According to the author's experience, this approach to distance learning can be most effectively implemented using the Discord program, while forming a new learning environment that makes extensive use of modern information technologies that are understandable and accessible to young people.
