The article analyzes the characteristics and causes of downshifting as a social phenomenon associated with the appearance in society of groups of people who reject the norms of the consumer society for the sake of the realization of the need for selfactualization and camorali of the organization. It is concluded that the ideology of downshifters is a kind of Protest against the values imposed, unawares to the meaning of human life, inducing a person to the spiritual search for his purpose and the meaning of existence.
